Janice Gilmour, Administration janice_gilmour_2006

Janice Gilmour is an American, although she has lived many years in New Zealand. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and met her husband, Hastings lawyer Bruce Gilmour, there 23 years ago; Janice took a shine to Bruce's Kiwi accent and came with him to this country. . .  Here she earned a reputation in administration and accountancy. This led to her own company, Carojan Holdings Ltd., clients ranging, for instance, from a farm stock agent who employs the company's services for dealing with his orders and his books, to the Community Foundation (HB), which has a contract with her also for administration and accountancy. Back in Maryland, USA, Janice qualified as a Bachelor of Education from Salisbury State University but never became a teacher. Nowadays she wonders why she went down that road. In New Zealand, she started in the administration department on one of Fletcher Building's companies, Scott Commercial, and rose to be area accountant for the lower North Island. Fletcher Building applied Janice's talents as branch accountant at Placemakers in Napier. Pictorial Publications, Hastings, a calendar and postcard publisher, employed Janice as accountant and administrator before she took a five-year break from commercial life to raise her family. She and Bruce have two children, Anna, now 10, and James, 8, with whom Janice shares her love of camping, sailing and fishing on the lake. Janice became involved with Hastings Parents Centre, holding several offices, the last being president. Part-time work saw her controlling the creditors of a lively pharmacy company. Janice then opened a children's clothing store but closed that two years later.
